Daily Wire reporter, Megan Basham rose instantly to the New York Times Bestseller list amid the release of her new book, Shepherd’s for Sale: How Evangelical Leaders Traded the Truth for a Leftist Agenda. Basham has received much expected criticism for her book, which calls out mainstream mega-church pastors and leaders, editors and publications, as well as institutions that have sold out the true gospel for one that promises more money and prominence amid the cultural shift towards progressivism.
Basham wastes no time calling out the major political entities that have targeted Chrisitian organizations and the church at large, buying their support on the social issues of abortion, Black Lives Matter, transgender ideology, climate change and more. But Basham’s journalism does not call out these individuals and organizations for mere political purposes, but in order to give special attention to the real victims of leftist evangelicalism: church members. She has experience pushback, however, from various pastors and media personalities such as Gavin Ortlund and J.D. Greear.
But amid heavy criticism, Basham has received much praise from other leaders and pastors within the Christian faith. John MacArthur, author and pastor of Grace Community Church writes,
“This may just be the single most important book on modern Evangelicalism in recent years. It is bold, clear, and very well-researched.”
Shepherd’s for Sale is not simply an expose, but a warning of the dangers that prowl when the church trades the solidarity of Scripture to toe the line of social change under the guise of Christian love and acceptance. Basham brings to the forefront those who have twisted the gospel for their own advantage, in order to be afforded with prestige, prominence, and a nice paycheck. In a world where values carry absolutely no value, Basham is inspiring young men and women to stand up against corruption and to stand firm in God’s Word. Revealing, hard hitting, and timely, Shepherd’s for Sale is a must-read for believer’s and the church at large as we fight to stay above reproach in a culture hungry to watch us fall.
